Demolition of the Scarborough Mall began on Monday August 12, with a timeframe of ten to twelve weeks. Channel 5 News contacted NIPDEC representative Patrick Caesar, as they will be overseeing the demolition process.
The demolition of the NIB Mall in Scarborough appears to be moving ahead at full throttle; barricades have now been erected debarring members of the public from entering the premises.
It was business as usual for some tenants of the NIB Mall, while others were busy packing their goods in an attempt to meet the deadline set by the NIB Mall Management. When Channel Five News visited the Mall, we saw some spaces empty, as business owners heeded the call by the NIB Management to vacate the premises by April 30th.
The NIB mall, one of the island’s landmarks would be torn down by April 30, 2013. Top management of the NIB recently served eviction notices to their 40 tenants, as they claimed the mall is unsafe for continued occupation and should be demolished.
The degraded condition of the NIB mall in Scarborough has been a major concern by citizens of Tobago for several years and it seems as though steps are now being taken to improve the state of it.

The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) had to step in to assist beneficiaries and other clients of the National Insurance Board (NIB) who have been deprived of service for the past month at the Board’s Tobago Local Office in NIB Mall Scarborough.
Sugar cake, benne` balls and tullum, were just some of the delicacies on display for sale at the NIB mall in Scarborough. The snacks were part of the business launch by the Tobago Organization for Women Entrepreneurs in an attempt to make Tobagonians aware of their new endeavour.
